| The Legend of Lake Aiguebelette
Once upon a time, there was small but prosperous town on the banks of a splendid lake.
The town's people lived an easy, hedonistic life, thinking only of pleasure and living it up on every occasion possible.
One day a poor man arrived, dressed in rags, and he requested just a morsel of bread to eat and a roof under which to shelter.
Of course, this poor man turned out to be no ordinary man, according to legend, it was Christ
himself who had disguised himself to show the people of the town that they needed to open their hearts and to think of others and not only themselves.
To punish the townsfolk, the next day the waters of the lake rose and covered the town except for the homes of the old lady and her daughter,
which were saved on two islands in the lake, linked by a dry path. …..And that is the origin of the lake of Aiguebelette. |
